Franc Majzelj was born on July 5, 1950 in Metlika, Slovenia. He married Marica in 1972 and immigrated to Canada in 1973. They settled in Hamilton, Ontario where Frank found work at Dofasco. Frank loved his new homeland Canada. He retired in 2011 after 38 years at Dofasco so that he could enjoy life to the fullest and also spend valuable time with his grandchildren and role model his love for learning new things, share his thirst for knowledge, and have fun at Slovenski Park fishing, dissecting frogs as a learning experience for his grandchildren and roasting marshmallows and corn at the campfire. He especially loved watching his grandchildren grow and thrive. He had a passion for fishing, sports, enjoying nature – especially picking wild mushrooms, and collecting trading cards, stamps and coins. Frank also felt the need to be part of the Slovenian Community and joined many groups whose mission was to preserve the Slovenian heritage and promote Slovenian values. Over the years, he was a member of: Slovenski Park, St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Church in Hamilton, Hamilton-Wentworth Slovenian Cultural Society, Belokranjski Club of Toronto, Slovenia Relief Fund and the All Slovenian Cultural Committee. Frank served on the Boards of these organizations and still found time to go to school, obtaining a Certificate in Genealogical Studies Canadian Records at the National Institute for Genealogical Studies of Information at the University of Toronto. He was the President of the Slovenian Genealogy Society International - Ontario Chapter and Treasurer at the Canadian Slovenian Genealogical Foundation. He also joined the Canadian Slovenian Historical Society and took the position of Archivist. Frank donated many hours of work and maintained meticulous records for various Slovenian genealogical projects over the years. He will be missed by all those who had the privilege of being a part of his life.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at St. Gregory the Great Slovenian Church on March 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. The resting place will be at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery in the Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to a charity of your choice will be greatly appreciated.
