Hunnersen, Janet (nee VanderMeer)
July 1, 1955 - February 21, 2025It’s with great sadness that we share news of Janet’s passing on February 21. Predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Hiltje VanderMeer, her sister Dorothy and her brother Harry she was the loving wife to Mike and devoted mother to Melissa, Nicole, and Bryce. Grandmother to Kira and Sienna. Sister to Siebe (Ivy), Klaas (Ruth) and Sye (Elly). She w ill be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Janet was born in Brampton, Ontario on July 1st, 1955, the second-youngest child of six of Jacob VanderMeer and Hiltje Alkema. The family moved to Glen Williams in 1956.
After graduating from Woodbridge Christian High, she married Mike Hunnersen on August 23, 1975. Melissa was born in 1976, Nicole in 1978 and Bryce in 1989. Janet and Mike operated Golden Fish and Chips in Cambridge together for about 30 years. After the store closed, she acquired a bookkeeper’s license and worked at various companies. Janet retired in the early 2010s. Afterwards, she and Mike enjoyed a long road trip to the USA (among other places), and Janet always made detailed scrapbooks of their trips. They also enjoyed relaxing in their country home outside of Innerkip.
Janet was a Calvinette counselor, Sunday School teacher, and an active member of Maranatha CRC for many years.
She enjoyed traveling (especially to Cuba), sewing, baking, playing board games, and visiting with family. She also enjoyed an active lifestyle, hiking and going on long walks. Her favourite outdoor activities were camping every summer and going to the beach.
Janet’s health gradually declined after she retired and she passed away peacefully in the afternoon of February 21st, 2025.
