Chilton, Rita Marie (nee Smith)
July 10, 1948 - April 4, 2025It’s with great sadness that we share the news of Marie’s peaceful passing at Hospice Wellington and the age of 76.
Born in Toronto on July 10, 1948, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 47 years, Ronald Charles Chilton and her parents Mervyn and Theresa Smith.
Marie will be deeply missed by her children Rick (Trish), Ron, Kelly (Derek) and her grandchildren Danielle (Dan), Samantha (Burke), Eric, Evan, Ashley, Brayden (Chloe) and Avery (Mishi).
Sister to John (Kathy), Lee (Bruce), Shirley (Dave), Norma (Stan), Carol (Charlotte), Peter (Patti), Steve (Diane) and sister in law Marion (Lawrence), John (deceased) (Donna), along with her 21 nieces and nephews. Marie will be fondly remembered by her lifelong friends Pat, John, Darryl Melissa, Crystal, Austin, Phil, Sheila, Lee and Tracy.Marie moved from Toronto to a farm in Burford then, to Brantford with her family where she met her future husband. Following high school Marie worked in administration with a local travel agent. She also worked at Moore Business Forms Fergus and then finished her career in payroll for Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) Guelph. In her earlier years Marie enjoyed bowling at the Fergus Bowling Lanes. She loved gathering and lunching with the girls from CCAC. She learned to golf and enjoyed playing her dad, as well as her other family and friends. She also loved camping in her trailer and watching Nascar.
Thank you to Dr Beddard and the staff at Riverview Medical, Dr Whitton, Dr Samawi and Dr Algird as well as the nurses and administration staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. Exceptional thank you to nurses Sam and Sandra, and PSW’s Renee, Senait, Sham and Krishna through home care, as well as Dr Lund. Special thanks the entire staff - Nurses, PSW’s, administration, kitchen and front desk staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington in Guelph. Every single one of these people played a very important part in helping to care for Marie and her family before and after her diagnosis.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Aboyne Rural Hospice or The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
The family will welcome friends and family to celebrate Marie’s life on May 2nd from 2pm until 8pm at the Fergus Legion. Light fare and refreshments will be available.
