Dawson, Ruth

Dawson, Ruth
April 3, 1941 - November 15, 2022

On Tuesday November 15th, 2022, at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, our family said goodbye to our much-loved Mom and Gramma, Ruth Ann Mabel Dawson (nee Edwards) at the age of 81. She will be greatly missed by her son Lloyd Dawson, his wife, Lori Dawson and her grandchildren Ryan Dawson and Emma Dawson and many extended family members.

Ruth was born in Ingersoll on April 3, 1941, to Izabelle and Robert Edwards. She grew up surrounded by her brothers Robert Edwards (deceased) (Kay), Ralph Edwards (Linda), Ken Edwards (Faith) and her sister Caroline. She moved to Guelph after she finished high school and lived with Uncle Fred (Cassler) and Aunt Sally where her and her cousin Sally (McCrone) became as close as sisters. Her entire working career was spent in Guelph; Ruth was also an active member of the Militia where she met her soul mate, her loving husband, Lloyd Edward Dawson. Lloyd and Ruth married and were overjoyed to welcome their son Lloyd to complete the family. The Dawson family went on many adventures across North America making amazing memories along the way.

Ruth was so proud to become a Gramma, never hesitating to share a story about Ryan and Emma to anyone that would listen. She loved a good joke and the Toronto Blue Jays. Widowed in 2003, Ruth stayed in the family home where she loved to read books and the newspaper, take care of the yard, do crossword puzzles and watch Classic Movies. She could be found doing dishes in the kitchen while Conway Twitty or Elvis played in the background. Ruth loved travelling, with her favourite destinations being Hawaii and Disneyworld. She also enjoyed her visits to Welland with brother Ken and his family often finding themselves at the Casino. Ruth could not wait to tell all the nurses at Hospice about the Disney Cruise to the Bahamas she took with her family.

Special thanks to the amazing staff at Guelph General Hospital and Hospice Wellington where Ruth was blessed to receive excellent and compassionate care. As per Ruth’s wishes, cremation has already taken place; she will be laid to rest in a private service joining her husband at Woodland Cemetery in London.

We ask that you keep her in your thoughts and remember her with a smile. As an expression of sympathy donations can be made to Hospice Wellington, 795 Scottsdale Drive, Guelph ON.
