Dukeshire, Scott

Dukeshire, Scott
December 1, 1960 – October 21, 2023

He didn’t want to go, and fought so bravely to stay.

After a year long battle with esophagus cancer, it is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Scott on Oct 21, 2023 at the age of 62.

Scott grew up in Burlington, Ontario and went to M.M. Robinson High School. He started his apprenticeship at Stelco right after high school. He became a skilled welder/fabricator, working at both Hamilton and Erie Works locations of Stelco, before taking early retirement. He continued to work at ACS (Caledonia, ON) and then Ferrell Steel (Hamilton, ON).

During his career he gained many nicknames including but not limited to: Poodle, Duke, Scotty, Jimmy, Scooter, Poo.

He took pride in his creative and mechanical mind which flowed through his hands and allowed him to design and build so many projects including a backrack for his daughter’s truck, custom railings for his son’s house, a garden trellis or lawn ornament, or that part that you just could not source. He could fix most things, and when faced with a problem he could jerry rig or MacGyver it, sometimes so well that it became the permanent solution.

Scott had a great sense of humor and could laugh at himself especially when it came to a perfectly timed fart that could clear a room. He was proud to announce a good poop, especially when it smelt like “roses”. We will probably even miss the sound of the morning trumpet in the form of a snot rocket into a Kleenex.

Scott had at least two of every tool, maybe so he could leave one to each of his kids, but more likely because it was easier to buy another than find the one he misplaced.

Scott enjoyed eating and sharing meals with friends and family which is one of the things he missed most this past year. He was an inventive cook, and could make a meal with whatever was left in the fridge. If left to choose however, it would include lobster and seafood. He added lots of black pepper, garlic and butter to most of his meals.

He especially loved fishing, bad dad jokes, making people laugh, watching Nascar and hockey, and a Tim Hortons double double.

Left to grieve are his wife Lynn, and children Derek, and Keri (Carl) who meant the world to him.

Predeceased by his parents Victor and Maureen. Survived by his sisters Marsha (Steve) Kapogines, Kim (Rick) Bailey, Wendy (Mike) Woudstra, Vicki (Bruce [deceased]) Lacillade, and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Scott’s wishes, there will be no funeral and cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests leaving stories, memories, and pictures of Scott at – 4scottsmemories@gmail.com
