Gunderson, Robert

Gunderson, Robert Lewis
July 6, 1967 – September 27, 2023

It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our brother Bob Gunderson on September 27, 2023, at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton. He was surrounded by both family members and an exceptional team of hospital professionals.

Bob will be reunited in Heaven with our mom, Geraldine (Deanie) Raynard, and our stepfather, Ronald (Rocking Ronnie) Raynard. He will be deeply missed by our father, Richard, and stepmom Shirley Gunderson. His sisters, Dianne (Robert), and Tammy (Ian), stepsisters Randean (Clint), Lindsay (Denton), and Ria (Tim), and stepbrother Tyson (Brenda). Bob cherished his nieces and nephews, Nicole, Val & William, Joe, Ashley, Alexis, Lawrence & Charles, Alysha, Victoria, Melissa & Milana.

A heartfelt appreciation goes out to Peter, Bob's dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW). Peter went above and beyond in attending to Bob's needs, and we are profoundly grateful. Thank you, Peter, for being Bob's guardian angel and for assisting us in ways we can never repay.

Our sincere gratitude extends to Theresa and Anna, the two nurses who meant the world to Bob. Thank you both for your exceptional care, unwavering patience, and kindness to our brother. He spoke highly of both of you, recognizing himself as fortunate to have such dedicated and compassionate individuals by his side.

Bob had a passion for card games, particularly Euchre, and he cherished the moments spent playing computer games with his nephews, Joe, and William. His enthusiasm extended to sports, being an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays. Engaging in spirited sports discussions with his family was a source of joy, even if it occasionally led to some lively debates.

Yet, perhaps one of Bob's most enduring legacies was his trademark sarcasm and wit, which never failed to bring laughter to those around him. His keen sense of humor, especially appreciated by Rob, made him a beloved figure, leaving behind fond memories of shared laughter and joy.

Family held the utmost importance in Bob's life, and simple moments like sitting together and enjoying a movie were cherished by him. His generosity and giving nature were remarkable. Anyone mentioning something they wanted around him needed to be cautious because, before you knew it, Bob would go the extra mile to deliver it to your doorstep. His selflessness and thoughtfulness made him a truly special and caring presence in the lives of those he loved.

Bob thoroughly enjoyed his time at the cottage and fishing was a passion that showcased his determination. Despite his fair complexion leading to instant sunburns, he persisted until he caught a fish larger than Rob's, earning a spot on the wall of fame. That was the essence of our brother—always giving 150%, no matter the endeavor, and ensuring he gave it his absolute best.

Bob's love for classic Boss cars led him to purchase a Camaro, which he meticulously stripped down and revitalized with new parts. Tragically, cancer intervened. In a heartwarming gesture, his brother-in-law Larry spent months completing the car for Bob, recognizing it was a bucket list dream. Though Bob was too weak to take a ride, he heard the engine roar to life, and the joy on his face as he listened to it run was a poignant moment, leaving a lasting memory for those who loved him.

Bob demonstrated unwavering commitment throughout his impressive 25-year career with triOS College. Within the triOS family, he became a beloved and enduring figure, and as a term of endearment, they affectionately nicknamed him ‘Gumby’. This not only speaks to the longevity of his association with the institution but also highlights the warmth and camaraderie he shared with his colleagues, turning the workplace into a genuine and supportive community.

Bob's memory will eternally reside in our hearts, and the legacy of his love and adventurous spirit will serve as a perpetual source of inspiration for all of us. He will be forever missed, and our hearts will always carry the imprint of his presence and the warmth of his love.
