Winch, Donald (Don) Glenwood
October 19, 1927 - March 17, 2022Don was born October 19, 1927, in Shelby, Montana to Erwin & Nell Winch. Don was the eldest of six children who grew up on the family farm near Keswick. On November 5, 1956, he married Donna Maude Cooper in Toronto and raised their five children in southern Ontario. Not long after they married, Don got a job working on the Avro Arrow project which included trips to Churchill, Manitoba for cold weather testing of the Arrow engines.
While living in Gananoque, he and Donna had their first contact with Jehovah’s Witnesses; kindly billeting two young women who were attending a Convention. It wasn’t long after that initial meeting that he began a personal study of God’s Word. Discovering the truth from the Bible, he dedicated his life and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 15, 1961.
He and Donna were known for generously opening their family home to so many. Don loved gardening and had a natural ability to grow amazing crops. He had a passion for sailing and enjoying a game of crib with whomever came to visit. Don taught his children love for Jehovah and the meaning of hard work. As a bold servant of Jehovah, he was willing to share the Bible truths with whomever would listen.
Don peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, while residing at St. Joseph’s Villa in Dundas, Ontario. Don was predeceased by his parents, siblings Bob, Merlyn, and Keith, his wife Donna and their son Glenn, and is survived by his sister Phyllis and brother Dennis. Don is lovingly remembered by his children, Greig (Sharon), Kim (Glen), Neil (Sandra), and Stephen (Joanne) along with his grandchildren, Mandy (Kevin), Benjamin (Crystal), Alixandra (Robin), and Tyler along with five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Villa staff for the patient and caring attention they gave to Dad over the past two years.
