Pletsch, Dorathy

PLETSCH, Dorathy Christine (nee Evans)
December 16, 1943 to June 18, 2021.

Passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 77 years of age. Loving wife of David, and beloved mother of Deborah (Connell Smith), Daniel (Deche Catam-isan), and Darin (Cathy Lostrangio). Proud grandmother of seven; great-grandmother of seven more; and doting aunt to dozens. Dear daughter of the late Jack (John) and Dora Evans; beloved sister to David, Margaret, John, and Suzanne.

Born in Manchester to Welsh parents, Dorathy emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of nine; here this feisty middle-child made an impact on every person she met. Naturally artistic, she worked as a layout designer in Toronto before (literally) running into David Pletsch; they married in 1967 and were inseparable thereafter. When she left her career to raise their three children, Dorathy channeled her energy into a steady stream of interests and causes. An expert seamstress, knitter, and baker, she was forever gifting family and friends with her work, and donating her time and efforts wherever she might make a difference. When her daughter became a highland dancer, she became involved in running the local association. A world-class bowler, she competed inter-provincially and then ran and championed the regional youth league. And she and her father were the team to beat on the local bridge circuit. Fun, fierce, and intelligent, Dorathy met every day head-on, with more energy and enthusiasm than the next ten people -- she was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend, and the world’s best grandma. She will be greatly missed.

No service is planned at this time; however, online condolences may be offered at www.passagescb.ca/obituaries. We would like to express our gratitude to the teams at Bayshore Palliative Health Care and Hospice Wellington for the loving support and care they showed Dorathy and our family; if desired, memorial donations may be made to www.hospicewellington.org. No flowers, please.
