Douglas Willfred Samms JR Passed away May 31st, 2021 at the age of 69 after training for this event for many years. His famous statement of “ I haven't eaten in 14 days” is inevitably what took him out. Oh…… and Cancer.
After being stubborn and holding on, it was the threat of a complete day of chick flicks that made Ugly Dougly decide to peace out, while holding his sidekick’s hand (daughter Jessica Samms).
Some know him as Papa, Ugly, Dougie or old fart, but most will remember him by his kind heart and giving nature.
He will be dearly missed by his tough as nails daughters Jessica Samms & Amber Kopey, and his bratty but much loved grandchildren... all 7 of them! His little, but bigger brother Garry Samms (Kim Samms and children) and let's not leave out his harem of women who were always quick to stop by for darts, cards or Ellen date night.
On his good days, Dad always had a smart ass remark, a funny story or silly song to brighten your day….. Who am I kidding? Even in the last days he was still making remarks to make me laugh. I remember saying to him a few days before he passed “Dad I will be back in a minute”, and he said “MAKE IT 10“ Pfffft….JERK!!
Dad was always my best friend, the person who stood by me no matter how crabby I was, how much I messed up or told him to get lost, he was my right hand man and the toughest SOB in the valley.
We have had a heck of a journey this last year. He comforted and held my hand as I came into this world. I sang to him, prayed over him, laid with him, held his hand as he took his last breaths and for that I feel so blessed.
Dad loved a cold beer, great music and the company of good friends and family. Once the pandemic has calmed and people can gather, that is how we will memorialize him.
