Kulchecki, Edward
January 20, 1938 - March 20, 2025

In Loving Memory of Edward Kulchecki.

Edward Kulchecki passed away peacefully at Wellington Hospice on March 20, 2025, at the age of 87, following a severe stroke at home. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years, Carol, and will be lovingly remembered by his children: Layne (Alison), Gregg, Glen (Pam), and Deanne (Stephen). He was a proud grandfather to Heather (Seth) and cherished great-grandchildren Salem and Lark. Ed was predeceased by his siblings Helen, Julie, Mary, and Joey, and is survived by his sister Ann Marie. He will also be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Known fondly by many as Ed, Eddie, Dad, Papa, or Uncle Eddie, he was a hardworking and dedicated provider for his family. He began his career in construction with Grassing Construction, mastering trades such as plastering and bricklaying, before spending a brief time with Al’s Cartage. Ed dedicated over 26 years as the Head of Maintenance and Facilities at St. Paul’s College, earning the nicknames “Mr. Fix-it,” “The Carpenter,” and “MacGyver” for his ability to repair or invent tools and solutions with ingenuity and skill.

Family was at the heart of Ed's life, and he was always ready to lend a hand to those he loved. His summers were filled with joy and relaxation at the family cottage on Lake Huron, fishing, enjoying nature, and creating lasting memories. He had a quiet presence, was a gentleman and very generous. He had strong family values and loved his family dearly.

A long-time usher at St. Daniel’s Church, Ed was devoted to his faith and community until health challenges for himself and Carol required him to step back.

Music was a lifelong passion for Ed, a self-taught drummer who found joy in keeping a steady rhythm, whether on his drumkit or improvising with drumsticks on any surface nearby. He was a key member of the family band, drumming alongside his children, son-in-law, and nephew at charitable events. Affectionately nicknamed "The Silver Fox," Ed embraced every beat and every moment of those performances.

In his final year, Ed found new friendships and happiness attending the K-W Seniors Day Program with his wife, where he discovered a love for games and enjoyed sharing his drumming talent during music sessions. Gentle and generous, Ed had a quiet strength and was deeply devoted to his family and loved ones.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington for their compassionate care during Ed’s final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to the K-W Seniors Day Program or Hospice Wellington would be greatly appreciated.

As per Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will honour his memory with private grieving, followed by a tree-planting ceremony at the cottage in the spring.

In lieu of direct condolences to Carol, the family kindly requests that expressions of sympathy be directed elsewhere, as her advanced dementia makes it difficult for her to process such loss, often causing her to relive the pain repeatedly.
