Almas, Fred
Almas, Fred
February 28, 1932 - December 6, 2023
Fred Almas passed away peacefully with family by his side in his 91st year.
Loving husband to Ruth for 68 years. Son to the late Fred & late Dorothy Almas. Brother to Bruce (Bernice) and Ken (Dale). Son-in-law to the late Enia Royle.
A wonderful Dad to Wendy (Bob), Wayne (Brenda), Cathy (Mike) and Cheryl (Rod). Much loved Papa to 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Grandfather to: Jackie, Sean, Andrew, Trevor, Nic, Caitlin, Jodie, Tyler, Jeremy, Corey & Ryan.
Great Grandfather to: Emelyn, Brooklyn, Bobby, Wayne, Gavin, Cayson & Camilla.
Loved by his sister-in-law, Norma Royle.
Fred was a great presence to be around. He was a strong, intelligent and independent man who marched to his own drum. He was always there to help out family and friends in times of trouble. He showed unwavering support for his wife Ruth and his son Wayne through their physical challenges. We all appreciated his amazing skills to build or fix practically anything. He had a great sense of humour.
Our Dad was raised along with his two younger brothers Ken & Bruce on an original farmstead on Maple Avenue in Burlington. He later enjoyed working on his own hobby farm in Lowville for 44 years. Many enjoyed annual corn roasts, Christmas, birthday and other celebrations at the farm.
Married to Ruth in the 1950's, Dad was educated & employed in the textile industry (Monarch Knitting Mills) in Dunnville and became a new Dad to his first 2 children, Wendy & Wayne there. This young family then moved to Aldershot into their first home and increased their child count to 4 with Cathy & Cheryl.
Dad was a long time dedicated supervisor at the Ford Motor Company until his retirement.
He had a great passion for music and played his clarinet in multiple bands over the years. His latest was the Dundas Concert Band where he enjoyed playing into his late 80's. His love of music continued into his 90's when he decided to teach himself the piano and purchased a key board.
Dad & Mom have always had a special relationship with a wonderful group of high school friends who have maintained a life long connection.
Dad always enjoyed Christmas... his tree is lit, Christmas lights shining & his wreath hangs on his door. All of his Christmas cards are stamped and ready (some even mailed). Christmas cards (with extra inside) and chocolate for all his kids, grandkids and great grandkids are made out and waiting. Dad did not like to sit still and did not accept extra help easily. He definitely had a stubborn streak and did everything his own way.
We all love him so much. He will be very missed. A celebration of his very full life will be held at the Burlington Golf & Country Club - 422 North Shore Boulevard East-Burlington on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 from 1-4 p.m.
For those of you that have memories you would like us to share at the celebration, please email to almaswebberw@gmail.com
If desired a donation could be made to the Salvation Army which he always supported or to the Dundas Concert Band
