Mason, Peter
Mason, Peter David
June 12, 1947 - December 13, 2023
After a hard fought 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer, Pete passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 76.
Pete will be profoundly missed by Ann, his loving wife of 48 years.
Brother to Philip (Pendo) Mombasa, Kenya, brother-in-law to Bill Rowe (Sandi), uncle to Bradley Rowe (Jennifer), Melissa Kinghan (Darrel), Auckland, NZ, great uncle to Emi and Austin. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Birdie (nee Grobb).
Pete grew up in Kitchener, Ontario making life long cherished friends. Many of those friends have shared how much they loved and appreciated Pete’s acute sense of humour. He was able to generate a laugh that would get the whole world laughing with him.
After achieving a BSC Marine Biology degree in the United States he pursued a successful career at the Grand River Conservation Authority. Taking early retirement in 2002 he and Ann began the next chapter of their life by selling their sailboat; Pete then earned his private pilot licence. Together with Ann, he flew their Piper Arrow to many destinations in North America and Mexico. The most memorable was completing a trip to the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula.
He enjoyed maintaining their property in Glen Morris and could fix or build anything. He loved travelling, reading, woodworking, cutting trees for firewood, high performance cars and sports. Pete was a very accomplished athlete who throughout his life excelled at many sports. His favourite sport became the game of golf. His fellow Hackers commented that he was extremely modest but that he played well above average, some would say excellent. Pete loved all animals and nature. (he even rescued insects found in the house).
Pete was a principled gentleman whose key values were not only his integrity and kindness but his generosity of spirit and love for his fellow man. With his 'live and let live' attitude and quick wit he will be remembered fondly by many. His was a good and full life.
We will miss him terribly but feel blessed to have him forever in our hearts.
There will be no visitation nor service. Cremation has taken place.
The family would appreciate reading your fond memories of Pete if you have time to share below.
