It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Gerald Christopher MacKinnon on March 24, 2021 at the age of 47. Gerald was born on Jan 15, 1974 in Neils Harbour, NS. He grew up in Ingonish NS, and at 21 moved to Guelph where he worked in construction, a job he loved for many years.
Gerald is pre-deceased by his parents Geraldine (Burns) and Paul MacKinnon, his grandparents Archie and Marcella (Maclellan) Mackinnon and Grandparents Gerald and Marion (Donovan) Burns.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his daughter Ashley Mae Downs MacKinnon, his grandson Carter, his 13-year-old son Cooper Clayton as well as his sister Pauline Mackinnon Reinhart (Christopher Couture), Niece Sarah, and his many cousins in Cape Breton, Alberta and BC. Gerald also leaves behind his close and dear friend Denise, whom he loved so greatly, and will be fondly remembered by all of his family and friends from Guelph and Ingonish, NS.
In recent years Gerald was sick and unable to work. He will be remembered as a rebel throughout the years and for how he lived his life as a carefree spirit. He opposed the rules and always lived in the moment. He was a proud man and preferred to be a lone wolf - to make his own choices in life and to sleep under the stars.
We will always remember his kind and generous heart, his story-telling and his ability to make us laugh.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations are made in his memory to the Guelph Drop in Shelter, your local homeless shelter or the Canadian Mental Health association.
