Kenneth Irwin Thompson, age 89, recently of Waterloo, Ontario passed away on March 19, 2021. Ken was born January 28, 1932 in Flin Flon, Manitoba, son of Stewart and Vivian Thompson (nee Weir).
On September 26, 1952 Ken married Joyce Smitheman at Greenfield Park United Church. They remained in love until their dying days. Together they raised 6 children in the family home on John Street in Greenfield Park, Quebec.
Ken was an Electrician by trade and was employed as an Instrument Mechanic and Instrumentation Technician. He worked at Montreal refineries for both Redpath Sugar until 1979, followed by Lantic Sugar Limited Montreal retiring on January 12, 1996.
Ken enjoyed woodworking, camping, cycling, cross country skiing, square dancing, and flying kites for his children and grandchildren’s entertainment.
Ken will be remembered for his ability to fix anything that was broken.
Ken will be greatly missed by daughters Linda Lord (Danny), Penny Norkett (Glenn) and sons Randy (Marie-Claude), Neil (Karen), Mark (Sherri). Grandchildren Susan, Kenneth, Steven, James, Melanie, Catherine, Robyn, Christopher, Kyle, Amy, Laura, Sarah, Ariel, Morgan and Jarad and great grandchildren Erika, Bryan, Sean, Vanessa, Yannick, Hailey, Sofia, Jillian and Levi. Predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Joyce, daughter Sherry Mercier, and his sister Donalda.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
