Wetmore, Jim
Wetmore, Jim
October 24, 1957 – July 16, 2021
In Guelph, lovingly supported by family and friends, Jim passed away at the age of 63 on July 16, 2021. Beloved husband of Tena Wetmore (née Munroe) and father of Gabe Wetmore. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Debby Wetmore (Jim Henry), Diana Wetmore, and Sharron Wetmore Mollenhauer; by nieces and nephews Jenny McVean (Mark Briggs), Alex McVean (Rachel Duncan-Macpherson), Heather and David Mollenhauer, and by many treasured friends.
Jim was the son of the late Jane and Gord Wetmore. He graduated from Appleby College where he was Valedictorian for his graduating class, quarterback on the football team, and a valued hockey and cricket player. Golf was something he and his Father enjoyed together, and they often won the Father-Son Tournament at Mississauga Golf and Country Club. After attending Western University, he joined his Grandfather, Father and Mother at Wetmore Welding Supplies, the family business. His entrepreneurial spirit whetted, he went on to pioneer in the organic produce field and founded Wanigan Organics which brought affordable organic food and baked goods to people who otherwise could not access it. For years he delivered produce biweekly to customers as far away as Sudbury. Some of his happiest times were in the Wanigan Kitchen and Bakery baking his popular pies that his Mother and nephew Alex joined him to sell at the St. Lawrence Market.
In his last years, Jim showed remarkable strength of character by always being appreciative of family and friends for their care and concern, and cherishing the time spent talking on the phone or watching favourite shows together. He was a talented writer, and was penning a book when he felt well enough, many of the characters being people who lived their lives alongside him.
Jim received wonderful care from the Bayshore nurses, from his MD Dr Beth Jolley, and the many doctors and nurses at Guelph General. Jim was always a gentleman, a generous and eloquent soul who tried to make people feel appreciated and comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, Tena and Gabe would welcome a contribution to continue Jim’s work in developing native plant and flower gardens on their property. Please contact Tena for e-transfer contributions to the garden (tena.wetmore@gmail.com) or a donation to St. John's Anglican Church, Rockwood ON would also be appreciated.
A live-stream of the 3:00 pm EST service will be available from 2:50 pm on Sunday, July 25 on St. John’s Anglican Church Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/StJohnsRockwood
