Jose Moreira-Ruiz, 81 peacefully passed away at home on September 17, 2022.He was born in Honduras in the city of San Pedro Tocamacho, on July 1, 1941 to parents Atiliana Ruiz and Magdaleno Moreira. His love of learning led him to degrees in Education and Industrial Engineering and to working as a principal in Honduras.
He married the love of his life, Yolanda on December 19, 1980 who survives him. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Esther, Andres, Iliana and Maria Isabel and his granddaughter.
He loved to travel and those travels led to visiting the Philippines, Mexico, Argentina, Nicaragua, Chile as well as Brazil and living in New York City and then Toronto. As a member of the Red Cross while living in Honduras he participated as a first responder during natural disasters like the hurricanes that sometimes hit his homeland. In Toronto he volunteered at St. Joseph's Health Centre for over a decade, providing information and directions to all who arrived. He was a fan of great food, had a funny dry wit and enjoyed early morning walks when the streets were quiet. He had a deep and abiding faith in God and was an active member of his church. His kindness and warmth enveloped family, friends and strangers alike.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2022 at 1pm at Glenview Memorial Gardens.
