Jobst, Karl

Jobst, Karl
February 29, 1936 - June 15, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Karl Jobst on the evening of June 15, 2023. He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his daughter Gabriele (Rob), son Harald, grandchildren Jacob and David, and their mother, Gosia. He is predeceased by ex-wife and mother to his children, Elfriede Primosch, and he is the last of 8 siblings to move on to the next life.

Karl was born in Habruck, Austria and immigrated to Toronto in 1967 living also in Spruce Grove (Alberta), Kitchener and Kirkfield over his life in Canada. He was a talented carpenter and furniture-maker by trade and truly loved his work. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help others and he often showed his love through his generous actions. Karl liked watching hockey to unwind, riding his bike, telling dad jokes, getting his evening laugh regularly while watching the Tonight Show (especially when Jay Leno hosted), taking canoe rides out on the lake, and building pretty much anything with wood. And it appeared at times that if something couldn’t be fixed by a nail and hammer in his eyes, duct tape was a perfect alternative!! To relax, it was common to see him with his shirt off, laying out on the deck in the sun on his lawn chair sleeping. He spent whatever time he could outside. He designed and built two houses while in Canada and hoped to live his last years at his peaceful cottage home in Kirkfield, Ontario until a dementia diagnosis changed that plan.

Many thanks go to the PSW’s, nurses and staff at A.R. Goudie long-term care home for their kindness and tireless efforts over the past 5 years to create a safe and caring home away from home. Their support in the last difficult days was indispensable.

Cremation has taken place. No funeral service or visitation is planned as per his wishes. Please kindly consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society Waterloo Wellington if you feel so inclined: www.alzheimerww.ca
