Reid, Lois
Reid, H. Lois
May 28, 1933 - March 28, 2024H. Lois Reid passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital on Thursday, March 28, 2024 just 2 months shy of her 91st birthday. Lois was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 28, 1933 and is predeceased by her parents, Bill and Ethelwyn Reid (nee Jarvis), her brother Billy, and her nephew Bob.
Lois is lovingly remembered by her daughter Lori and her grandson Jordan. Dearly loved aunt to Rick Reid and his wife Cindy. Beloved great auntie to Jason, Eric, Heather and Sam. Great-great aunt to Kayla and Violet. Remembered fondly by all of her great nephews in Calgary. Will be dearly missed by her life long friend and sister-in-law Lorraine Sindrey. Lois cherished the fond childhood memories she created with her great granddaughter Hannah Fedorick. Lois will be fondly remembered by her Toronto cousins, her Jarvis family reunion relatives, cousin Elaine, and special nephew Tam & his family.
Lois easily made friends wherever she went and she will be deeply missed by all, and especially her dear friends Pat, Hilary, and Pauline.
Lois worked as a stenographer for Ontario Hydro for 28 years until she took a ‘Golden Handshake’ and retired early at age 50, thus beginning the second chapter of her life that included extensive world travel and her life long love affair with England, where she returned to almost yearly. Besides her love of travel and meeting new people everywhere she went, Lois enjoyed gardening and cooking - creating many great and delicious meals for friends and family. Most of all, Lois enjoyed spending time with family and friends and putting her special, thoughtful touch on memories created together.
Lois was an enthusiastic member of The Lois Club (Hamilton/Burlington chapter) and when once asked in an interview with the Hamilton Spectator ‘how does it feel to be a Lois’, she said jokingly, “Better than being a Helen!” as she became known as Lois as a child because her brother Billy couldn’t pronounce her given first name Helen. She will be missed by all of her Lois Club friends, especially Lois M. & her sister Shirley, and Omelia.
Special thanks to all of the staff of St. Peter’s Hospital Palliative Unit for their kind and compassionate care. Much gratitude and thanks to Dr. Jeyaseelan for such kindness, support and guidance - particularly in the last several months in helping us support Lois in her goal of remaining in her own home as long as possible and only having to enter palliative care in the last 2 weeks of her life. Many thanks to case manager Tamara with HCCSS who also greatly helped in facilitating Lois’s goal of remaining at home. And a special thank you to Lois’s favourite PSW Barwoka.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Lois’s family and friends are remembering her as “a grand lady, a beautiful soul with a vibrant spirit, always positive, a real fire cracker, always willing to try new things”.
As per Lois’s wish there will be no funeral service. Think of Lois when you are considering a new adventure and ‘just go for it’ as she would say.
During her last 2 weeks (spent at St. Peter’s) friends and family have been sending messages, posting old photos and sharing favourite memories which Lois enjoyed so much. Twice in the past week of her life she said to her daughter, “Everybody Loves Me”. How wonderful it is that Lois left us knowing how deeply loved she was by everyone who knew her.
We will forever cherish the love that our dear mom, Nana, auntie and friend, Lois, has left in our hearts.
