Norris, Michael Francis
November 18, 1953 - August 3, 2022
On August 3, 2022, after years of medical ailments and complications due to Covid-19, Mike Norris passed away. He was 68 years old.Mike is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Sherri and Michael; his sister, Frances Schilling, and her husband Grant; his brother-in-law, Tom Pippy; his nephew, David Sichewski; and his sister-in-law, Sherri Sichewski, and her husband, Jerry.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Rose Norris; his sisters, Sharon Norris and Linda Pippy; and his nephew, Tim Pippy.
Born and raised in Kitchener Ontario, Mike moved to Walkerton, Ontario to start his career as a Federal Government Meat Inspector (Canadian Food Inspection Agency). Throughout his working years, he worked mainly in poultry plants in Hanover and Walkerton, but also travelled to other worksites in Ontario, when needed. Mike made many lifelong friendships during his years working with his fellow inspectors and plant employees.
Mike and Carolyn were married for 47 years. Together they showed their children what a healthy and loving marriage looks like and created a very happy and supportive family. Mike was proud of his family, and his family was proud to call him husband and Dad.
Mike was a very caring and involved father. Many kids and teens, now adults, will remember Mike as Coach. He volunteered as a coach for most of the sports teams that his children played on as they grew: ringette, hockey, and soccer. If he wasn’t coaching or refereeing, he was one of the fans cheering them on. His children definitely knew that their father loved them and would do anything he could to make sure that they were happy and safe.
Once his children moved away and he retired, he continued to volunteer in the community. Mike volunteered at South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council, where he tutored and mentored two teenage boys throughout their high school years. He also volunteered at the Hanover Habitat for Humanity build.
Family and friends of Mike are invited to attend his funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walkerton, Ontario on August 15, 2022 at 11:00AM. At Mike’s request, attendees are to be in comfortable clothing and absolutely no ties.
In lieu of flowers, if desired, a memorial donation to South Grey Bruce Youth Literacy Council, Owen Sound Hospital Stroke and Rehabilitation Centre, Grand River Hospital Senior Specialized Mental Health Unit, or the KW Humane Society, would be appreciated.
