Sibiga, Shirley

Sibiga, Shirley (nee Woods)
June 23, 1931 - August 7, 2022

Shirley Sibiga, aged 91 of Waterdown, passed away in the early morning of August 7th, 2022, after a short illness. Predeceased by her loving husband, Henry, Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, Helena (George) and Matthew (Deirdre) (former wife, Jan), her grandchildren, Gillian, Maddie (Clayton), Ben, and Anna, brother Grahame (Glorya), as well as her best friend, Bianka, and all who knew and loved her.

Born and raised in England, Shirley immigrated to Canada in 1953. Despite loving her new home, Shirley was a proud Brit, and travelled home when she could. She lived through World War II - an experience that shaped who she was, even into her later years. Shirley was a monarchist through and through, which eventually had her become the so-called queen of her family: serving as a fierce matriarch whom everyone deeply loved and respected. Shirley was an avid reader and spent many of her years running Insight Books in Mississauga, which were some of the most memorable years of her life. Upon retirement, Shirley helped raise her four grandchildren and spent her free time doing the daily crossword, bookclub, going to the movies and theatre, playing Scrabble, and having deep, long chats on the phone. Shirley has often been described as a strong woman, both in her beliefs and her temperament, but those that loved her knew her soft side as well. Anyone that knew Shirley would describe her as a storyteller - someone who could tell you intricate details of things that happened early in her life: these stories will be a significant void in her loved ones’ lives. She will be incredibly missed by the many people she touched in her 91 years - there was no one quite like our Shirley.

Deep thanks to the 5N Palliative Care Team at Joseph Brant Hospital and to Alexander Place in Waterdown. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Joseph Brant Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Funeral to be held on Wednesday August 24th, 11AM, at Christ's Church Cathedral (252 James St. N.) Hamilton. Reception to follow.
