Smith, Patrick Lawrence
September 18, 1946 - January 20, 2025It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Smith, who peacefully left us on January, 20, 2025. Patrick, affectionately known as Pat, was born on September 18, 1946, to Dorothy Smith (Nee: McPhail) and Lawrence Smith (both predeceased). He was the cherished twin brother of Doris Taylor, beloved sibling to Lawrence Smith, and Fredrick William the Third (also predeceased).
Pat’s devotion to his country was evident in his service with the Canadian military, where he proudly served from the age of 17 until his retirement at 65. In his retirement, Pat worked in Petawawa, Ontario, as a Refrigeration Technician. His passion for fixing things and helping people remained a cornerstone of his life.
In 2021, Pat moved back to Hamilton to be closer to his twin sister, Doris. Their bond was one of love and devotion, and it is a bond that will never be broken.
Pat was known for his infectious smile, a sense of humour that could light up any room, and his love of playful mischief. He had a unique ability to bring laughter to those around him, often teasing others in a way that left everyone in stitches. His generosity, both with his time and his talents, touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Though Pat struggled with dementia in his later years, his spirit and humour remained strong. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of knowing him. We thank all the staff at Rassam Gardens for the love and support they provided during this time of Pat’s life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 435 Limeridge Road, East, Hamilton on February 22nd, 2.00 - 4.00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s honour may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton and Halton or to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA.
Pat’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his laughter will echo in their memories forever.
