Ronald John Slater died on November 15, 2024 in Guelph, Ontario. He is survived by his brother Michael, his sister-in-law Charmaine, his nephew Hart and Hart’s wife Emma, and their children Birdie and Rory. He is predeceased by his brother Norm, and his mother Roberta.

Ron was born in London, Ontario on February 6, 1950. Even as a little child he loved reading. He had a great interest in books, an interest that carried on for the rest of his life. He received his Honours BA in French and Spanish from the University of Western Ontario and then a Master’s degree in Library Science from the same institution. He worked for 31 years in the library at Sudbury’s Laurentian University and was instrumental in setting up Laurentian’s School of Library Science. Ron was a specialist in the use of technology in libraries.

After his retirement, Ron remained in Sudbury where he recently fell ill and subsequently moved to Guelph to be with family.

There will be an interment ceremony at Woodland Cemetery, Mausoleum, and Crematorium 493 Springbank Drive, London on Saturday December 14, 2024, at 10:00a.m.
