Friedl, Barbara
Friedl, Barbara
June 9, 1939 - February 1, 2022Barbara Pearl Friedl (nee Coleman) born June 9, 1939 in town of Nictaux (near Kentville) within the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, died at the age of 82 on February 1st, 2022 after a long and brave fight against cancer.
Mother to Stephen Francis Crowley (Jodi Brown), and Allyson Lynn Shaw and beloved Nannie to only grandson, Travis-James Shaw, Barbara was known for her strength, independence, kind heart and amazing mind.
Barbara enjoyed excellent health for most of her life being a young track & field athlete, a high-school majorette, a business college graduate and mom to two by the age of 25. With her sharp mind and keen ability to organize and manage, Barb held important business roles throughout her working career. She was offered a first-ever female position of VP Manager with Domtar Industries at age 30, but instead retired and began a business with Leo Friedl (husband of 19 yrs). In later times, she acted as President of her late fiance’s property management company where they had nicknamed her “the Iron Butterfly” because she brought strength and beauty to the boardroom, achieving many contracts for the company.
Barb loved to travel and go on trans-Atlantic cruises with her family and dear friends like Shirley Mote and Lorraine Watson. An avid gardener, an awesome baker of both banana and zucchini loaves, and keeper of many family photo albums and video collections, Barb always had an amazing dedication to her family, closely gathering when she could with her parents and 6 siblings throughout the years.
Predeceased by brothers Maxwell (Jean), Brenton (Rollande) and Joseph (Carol) Coleman, Barbara leaves behind 2 dearly-loved younger sisters, Betty Mason (Harvey) and Debra Johnston (Drew) and her precious baby brother Philip (Gail), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, innumerable friends and her immediate family of Stephen, Allyson and Travis.
Forever etched in our hearts and minds as an amazing example of strength and grace, Barb / Mom/ Nannie will be sorely and sadly missed in our daily lives. God Rest your beautiful strong soul Mom.
Although cremation has taken place, a celebration of her life is planned for the future and donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Juravinski Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
