Niekamp, Frances

Niekamp, Frances Katherine
May 11, 1951 - February 13, 2025

Passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on Thursday February 13, 2025 at the age of 73 after a 10 year battle with appendiceal cancer.

Survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Gord Walcott. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Maria Walcott (James Adam) , her son Wesley Walcott (Ashley Van Herten), her grand daughter Marlo Walcott, her grand son Edwin Walcott, her sisters Dora, Helen (deceased), Aggi, Marie, Elsie (deceased), Rita, Angela, Yvonne, her brothers Herman (deceased), Leo, Walter, Ronnie, Ralph, and Allan (deceased), step-sisters Rosella (deceased) and Linda, step-brothers Ron and Raymond and half brother Daryl.

Francie loved her work as a microbiology technologist and over her employment career worked at Laurentian University, University of Waterloo, and the University of Guelph. Francie loved to sing and was a member of the University of Guelph Symphonic Choir for many years. Francie also loved to garden in her large yard, had a fondness for piecing together jigsaw puzzles, and trading novels with friends. Fran was also known for the many garden parties she would host for family, friends and members of the choir and was famous for her open door please drop-in policy.

She was quick to laugh, always ready to lend an ear, a staunch supporter of the underdog, and always excited to share her knowledge of horticulture, beer and wine, photography, and bird identification. She will be missed by so many; sometimes you don’t see how brightly a flame shines until it has been extinguished.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
