Doud, Melodie
Melodie Doud
September 1946 - March 2022Melodie accepted her “next assignment” as a newly fledged guardian angel on the morning of March 21, 2022. In the last few years it was common for her to express her readiness for the task, and joked that it was time to let Clarence (her guardian angel) finally retire.
Clarence had his wings full, keeping Melodie alive: when a housefire ravaged the Huck and McDonald clans; through 3 battles with cancer that each stole a piece of her body and offered only miniscule odds for her survival; and a variety of mishaps, misadventures, and accidents on cottage roads, road trips, and through life in general. Melodie would laugh and say she was like a Timex – took a lickin’ and kept on tickin’ – and attributed the positive outcome of each trial and tribulation to Clarence.
Melodie lived her robust life with enthusiasm for travel, road trips, camping, flea markets, and zeal for quality time shared with family and friends.
A main tenet of her life was her desire to help others, to be of use to her family, friends and community. She had a deep sense of right and wrong, and with it she fought many a battle for the “good of the little guy”.
She was rightfully proud of her many years of work as an air ambulance dispatcher in Ontario – work for which she was well suited and equipped with a keen and eager sense of humour, immense discipline, and unending dedication to help those in need.
Melodie was overjoyed to spend almost two decades as a Foster Grandparent during the months she spent in the United States each year. Working with “her kids” in Grades 1, 2 & 3 classrooms, helping them find success in reading and maths, brought her tremendous happiness.
Melodie is predeceased by her parents (“Mac” and Vera), her sister (Linda McDonald), and her God parents (Edith and Preston Sewell). She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Ward), her husband James (Doud), her cousins (Cathy and Garry Gould), and a great many dear friends.
Melodie planned her own Celebration, which took place May 7, 2022 at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.
